This course presents a comprehensive “deep-dive” into the legal aspects of the use of force including the development of the law, the Reasonable Officer standard. the range of reasonableness, and societal pressures on the Reasonable Officer standard. This course is an advanced study of the law and makes extensive use of case studies.

This course is partially sponsored by the Denton Police Department and the cost of this course has been reduced to only $125 per seat.  The class size is strictly limited to 50 seats, so save your seats before they’re gone!

The historical and present development of the law governing the use of force by law enforcement officers.
The concept and fallacies of the Reasonable Officer standard.
Determining the legal requirements for different degrees of force.
The “range of reasonableness.”
Use of Force versus Show of Force.
Civil Liability under Federal law.
Civil Liability under state law.
Qualified Immunity and the “Perfect Storm.”
Societal Pressures on the Reasonable Officer Standard.
